Knuckle Sandwich

Norman died of a heart attack on October 3, 2006 in Melbourne at the age of 64. Thirty-eight years after the three made history, both Smith and Carlos gave eulogies and were pallbearers at Norman's funeral. 

What had these three people achieved and why did their achievement receive much publicity?

smith and carlos were black athletes from i think us but not sure. norman was white and while smith and carlos were 1 and 3 in 200m in olympics he was 2.these 2 blackshad some sort of gesture i think some salute norman wore some badge and supported them.
